Jan. 9 court date set for NYC bomb plot suspect (AP)

NEW YORK ? A New York City man accused of crafting a homemade bomb in a plot to attack government buildings is set to learn next month whether he's been indicted in the state terrorism case.

Jose Pimentel wasn't in court Monday for a procedural hearing. His lawyers agreed he didn't have to be brought from jail.

Pimentel originally was set to learn Monday whether he'd been indicted. But prosecutors and defense lawyer Lori Cohen agreed to extend a deadline for a grand jury to weigh the case. Pimentel is due back in court Jan. 9.

Pimentel is held without bail on charges including conspiracy and weapons possession as terror crimes. A previous lawyer said Pimentel wasn't a real threat.

New York police say they kept federal authorities in the loop before having to take swift action using state charges.
